FAQs
What is integrative counselling?
Integrative counselling is a flexible approach that draws on different therapeutic models to meet your individual needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all method, I work collaboratively with you, tailoring our sessions to your experiences, goals, and what feels most supportive for you.
What does trauma-informed mean?
Being trauma-informed means recognising how past experiences, including trauma, can affect how we feel, think, and relate to others. I work at your pace, prioritising safety, trust, and choice, and creating a space where you feel respected, heard, and in control of your therapeutic journey.
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling can support a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including:
- Anxiety and stress
- Low mood or depression
- Trauma, PTSD, and complex trauma
- Low self-esteem and confidence
- Relationship difficulties
- Loss and bereavement
- Perfectionism and self-criticism
- Life transitions or feeling “stuck”
- Difficult childhood experiences
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people come simply wanting greater self-understanding or emotional support.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults and young people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. My practice is inclusive, respectful, and culturally sensitive. I welcome clients of all identities and aim to create a space where you feel safe and accepted as you are.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you are hoping for, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with, and we will move at a pace that feels right for you.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Sessions usually last 50 minutes and typically take place weekly. However, frequency can be discussed and reviewed depending on your needs and circumstances. Your sessions can be in-person (I'm based in M19) or online, dependent on your preference.
How much do sessions cost?
Counselling is £55 for a 50-minute session. There are limited concessions for trainee counsellors.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions. Some people come for short-term support, while others choose longer-term counselling. We will regularly review how the work is feeling for you and decide together what feels most helpful.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental part of counselling. What you share remains private, with a few legal and ethical exceptions, such as concerns about serious harm to yourself or others. These limits to confidentiality will be explained clearly at the outset.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. I am fully qualified, insured, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I hold an enhanced DBS check and adhere to ethical guidelines, safeguarding requirements, and ongoing professional development.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You are welcome to contact me directly to enquire about counselling or to arrange an initial appointment.
What if I’m unsure counselling is right for me?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure. Reaching out can feel like a big step. You are welcome to get in touch to ask questions or discuss your concerns before committing to sessions. Finding the right counsellor is important, and it’s okay to take your time.
